China's Coal-electricity Industry Vigorously Promotes Ultra-low Emission Transformation
Nov 16, 2018

Recently, Huang Xuenong, director of the Power Department of the National Energy Administration, said that in order to further improve the clean and efficient development level of coal power, China's coal power industry has vigorously promoted ultra-low emission and energy-saving renovation in recent years. As of the end of 2017, the cumulative energy-saving transformation of coal-fired power plants was 604 million kilowatts, and 96% of the transformation tasks by 2020 have been completed. China has built the world's largest clean coal power supply system.

It is understood that the world's first 600,000 kilowatt supercritical coal-fired unit, 1 million kilowatt ultra-supercritical unit, and 600,000 kilowatt supercritical circulating fluidized bed unit are all put into commercial operation in China. According to the National Energy Administration, as of the end of 2017, the proportion of China's 600,000 kilowatts and above coal-fired power units has increased to about 45%.

Huang Xuenong said that there are still 150 million kilowatts of coal-fired power units below 300,000 kilowatts. These units are responsible for heating or power grid support, and more powerful measures are needed to promote the phase-out of out-of-standard coal-fired power units. In the next step, we will continue to phase out the backward coal-fired units below 300,000 kilowatts that are not up to standard such as environmental protection, energy consumption and safety. The ultra-low emission conversion of coal-fired power units with conditions in the central region will be completed in 2018, and the western region will be completed in 2020.
